Coda II (1981-83)
The original Coda was KEF’s entry-level loudspeaker that established a strong reputation for offering high performance in a compact package at an affordable price. The Coda II continued this tradition, being a high quality bookshelf system incorporating many of the benefits of KEF’s advanced acoustics technology. The Coda II was able to dramatically improve the quality of reproduction from any ‘rack’ system or music centre particularly in regard to fine detail and tonal balance. Its high sensitivity and benign impedance characteristic would assure high volume levels with the minimum of distortion even with low powered amplifiers.

Cantor II (1981-83)
The Cantor II was a high quality bookshelf loudspeaker of good sensitivity intended for use in average sized listening rooms with associated electronics giving up to 50 watts output per channel into 8 ohms. This system was fitted with a KEF bass-midrange drive unit with a coated paper cone terminating in a PVC roll surround. Both drive units were fitted with generously sized magnet systems for a loudspeaker of this class. The closed box type of bass loading ensures good tolerance to subsonic signals, which are sometimes produced by record warp and turntable rumble.

Caprice II (1981-85)
The Caprice II was the logical successor to the Corelli, offering very good performance at the critical mid-price level. It used the same drivers as the Reference Model 103.2 but with a more basic cabinet and crossover. It continued in the line of high performance but affordable bookshelf loudspeakers offering impressive realism from a compact two-way enclosure. The system could be easily located to give good tonal balance and sharp stereo images in generous sized rooms. The new 8” bass driver used the proven bextrene cone for low colouration and also utilised the new technique of driver decoupling – whereby the chassis is screwed into the cabinet via soft rubber mountings to reduce the transmission of chassis vibrations into the cabinet structure. In common with the majority of KEF’s closed box designs at the time the bass response was tuned to a third-order characteristic by the inclusion of extra components into the crossover network.

Carlton II (1981-83)
The Carlton II was the top model in the C-series - a high quality floor standing loudspeaker intended for use in living rooms of average size with associated electronics giving up to 100 watts output per channel into 8 ohms. It followed on from the Calinda and Reference 104aB in being a two way system of generous internal volume with the bass response extended by the use of a passive radiator. In common with the higher models in the C-Series the bass driver used the proven bextrene cone, which when critically damped and terminated offered a low colouration sound with good consistency in production. The 3kHz crossover to the new T33 fabric domed tweeter followed a computer optimised fourth order acoustic characteristic.

Carina (1981-83)
The Carina (also known as the 302) was a two-way, three drive unit loudspeaker of high efficiency capable of producing high quality sound loud enough to satisfy the needs of those who like to listen at realistic, live volume levels. The system format followed on from that used in the Corcord 4 – what we call today a 2½-way system – where the two bass drivers operate together at the low frequencies but only the upper unit continues through the midrange to the crossover with the high frequency unit. The twin bass drivers bring advantages including higher maximum output and reduced distortion, making the Carina an ideal loudspeaker for heavy rock music as well as for the newly developed digital compact discs with their extended bass response.

Concerto II (1982-83)
The Concerto II was a very similar design to the Carina - a two-way, three drive unit loudspeaker of high efficiency capable of producing high quality sound loud enough to satisfy the needs of those who like to listen at realistic, live volume levels. The system format followed on from that used in the Concord 4 – what we call today a 2½-way system – where the two bass drivers operate together at the low frequencies but only the upper unit continues through the midrange to the crossover with the high frequency unit. The twin bass drivers bring advantages including higher maximum output and reduced distortion, making Concerto II  an ideal loudspeaker for heavy rock music as well as for the newly developed digital compact discs with their extended bass response.
