KEF x Minabe Craft Umeshu: Golden Tunes Meets Umeshu Delights
KEF and Minabe Craft Umeshu (MCU) share a profound appreciation for craftsmanship. While KEF is renowned for its hand-built masterpieces from the UK, MCU elevates umeshu making by carefully selecting plums and bases to create exquisite flavour profiles. Driven by a passion to position umeshu as a fine liquor worthy of fine dining, the founder Ryo-san guided our guests through a curated tasting experience.
This sensory journey featured umeshu varieties with progressively increasing alcohol content, each paired with music from diverse origins to create a symphony of taste and sound. For instance, No.3 GENTLE with shochu and No.1 CLEAR with Japanese sake were beautifully matching with "Mou Koinante Shinai" by Noriyuki Makihara, and the covered version by Leon Lai. Participants explored the depth and complexity of umeshu, guided by Japanese songs and Cantonese covers, along with storytelling about the evolution of flavours.
This experience allowed guests to appreciate the nuances of each umeshu, complemented by the melodies and insights into MCU's meticulous crafting process.Ryo-san shared their knowledge of different plum varieties, aging techniques, and the philosophy behind their unique blends, fostering a deeper appreciation for Japanese craftsmanship and the versatility of umeshu.

The BeCandle experience began with guided meditation, helping guests centre themselves and quiet their minds. Participants then embarked on three distinct audio journeys: Spring 1 by Max Richter, a passionate composition played through MUON; When We Were Young by Adele, a mellow melody from Q Concerto Meta; and a scene from Bohemian Rhapsody, capturing the thrill of live music.
After each listening session, guests engaged in reflective journaling, noting evocative keywords, specific memories and nuanced feelings triggered by the music. These personal reflections formed the basis for BeCandle's personalisation process. Using a sophisticated online database built on scent-emotion associations, participants received personalised scent suggestions.
Guided by expert perfumers, they then crafted their own unique room sprays, encapsulating their emotional responses. One participant might have captured the warmth of a winter fireplace with notes of woodsmoke, while another bottled the exhilaration of a transcendent singalong with bright citrus and floral notes.
This session helped guests uncover the invisible connections between music, cherished memories and sensory experiences, transforming the event into a deeply personal and evocative journey.

Chocolate, whisky, HiFi sound, and visual artistry — our "Flavours in Focus" event elevated sensory immersion by pairing iconic scenes from Blade Runner with Conspiracy Chocolate and Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky. Guests savoured fine food and drink while being captivated by the film's emotional power.
The journey began with The Awakening of Senses (the Voight-Kampff test), where the orchard-fruit-forward Bunnahabhain 15 Single Cask whisky complemented the tension of the scene, enhanced by Raspberry Timut chocolate’s nuttiness and bright orange zest.
Next, The Clash of Flavours ("Meet Your Maker") featured smooth Auchentoshan Single Cask whisky paired with dark chocolate and black sesame, creating a vibrant explosion of flavour that mirrored the climactic confrontation.
Finally, Echoes of Emotion ("Tears in Rain") paired Roy Batty's iconic monologue with Octave Premium Bowmore 2000, whose subtle smoke and toffee sweetness echoed the scene's melancholic beauty. Dark chocolate and miso pine nut added a rich umami, deepening the emotional impact.
This event showcased the synergy of filmmaking, chocolate-making,and whisky-blending, leaving guests with lasting memories.
